TOO DARN HOT!

Montreal’s terrific Lyric Theatre Singers under the direction of musical director Bob Bachelor have been wowing audiences with their popular Broadway revues at Concordia University’s gorgeous DB Clarke Theatre downtown for years. Last summer, after emigrating to Montreal, American gay married couple and community and regional theatre veterans Tim Adams and Terry Barr attended a Lyric Theatre Singers concert, were suitably blown away and immediately reached out to the company to join the talented cast. The Lyric Theatre Singers welcomed Tim and Terry with open arms. In their upcoming TOO DARN HOT! A Sizzling Broadway Revue, the Lyric Theatre Singers – including Tim and Terry – will perform musical theatre favourites by Cole Porter, as well as from such shows as The Band’s Visit, Singin’ in the Rain, Company, Next to Normal, Cinderella, Ragtime and Come From Away. “The Lyric Theatre Singers provide a unique opportunity to experience a wide variety of what the musical theatre canon has to offer,” says Tim, who will perform the “Good Mornin’” tap number from Singin’ in the Rain with Terry. Terry and Tim – let’s just call them TNT because they’re a dynamite singing, acting and tapping triple-threat duo – are bonafide Broadway queens. Says Terry, “The theatre community has always been a safe haven for the LGBTQ community. Long before being gay was acceptable, the theatre community welcomed and embraced the likes of Cole Porter, Noel Coward, Tennessee Williams and countless other talented LGBTQ people. The love, support, camaraderie and unconditional acceptance of the theatre community has always attracted LGBTQ people, whether as participants on stage, backstage, or in the audience.” Which sounds very much like the Lyric Theatre Singers of Montreal. 6 BY RICHARD BURNETT The Lyric Theatre Singers perform TOO DARN HOT!
