Experience the small town, downtown

-

Looking for a reprieve from the crush and frenzy of the coming Christmas season? Look no further than Downtown Galt for innumerable unique shops, a full range of dining and entertainment choices as well as a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Straddling the Grand River, Downtown Galt offers river views, walking paths, parks and the architectural appeal of an old stone city.

It’s the perfect place to come for a day’s outing. Start out with a morning visit to the Cambridge Farmers’ Market, then enjoy a leisurely visit to the diverse array of shops. After a soup and sandwich head out again for more seasonal shopping; perhaps visit one of the galleries and or be pampered with a spa or aesthetics treatment.

Are you searching for the perfect or unusual gift this Christmas? Artisanal cheeses, gift baskets, exquisite chocolates, fine pens, local art, hand made gifts and fashion jewellery are just some of the specialty stores you will find downtown.

If an evening visit is in your plans, there is an amazing range of casual fare to fine dining. From Italian and Indian, to British Pub and Gastropub, it’s all there for your intimate dinner or larger family occasion.

Visitors to Downtown Galt will notice a distinctive family-feel and welcoming atmosphere, according to Andrea Stebbings, Executive Director of the Galt on the Grand BIA. “It’s a separate community with a small town feel.”

Something is happening all the time in Downtown Galt, just check in at the local coffee shop bulletin boards; especially during the Christmas season. Seasonal highlights include Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night, The Cambridge Christmas Market and nine shopping spree giveaways. “Christmas in the downtown is a very exciting time. There is so much to do, so much to see. It’s exciting to see everybody come down and enjoy,” states Stebbings.

Up the road in Preston, visitors will enjoy shopping on a small town main street, which is still the focal point of the community. Just a few minutes away, historic Hespeler awaits with its old fashioned small village and family atmosphere.

Unique gift shopping, dining and entertainment choices abound within these historic urban landscapes. Experience small town downtown this Christmas season and all year long. ■
