Black Diamond’s entry into the technical climbing shell market is the hybrid fabr ic-construction Dawn Patrol jacket. Like other companies, Black Diamond employs a waterproof/breathable fabr ic on the hood, shoulders and ar ms, and adds a stretch woven material in the body for excellent breathability. But unlike other companies, Black Diamond has chosen to use only fabr ics from the Swiss textile leader, Schoeller – a company widely recognized as producing some of the finest technical outdoor fabr ics. The construction and detailing are similarly uncompromising with carefully positioned pockets (that are accessible while wearing a pack or harness) and a low bulk helmet-compatible hood for excellent protection from the elements. Two inter ior pockets provide extra storage, while the on-the-seam hand warmer pockets are a nice addition when heading to the bar with fr iends to recount the glor ious summit push. This is a solid and highly versatile soft shell jacket suitable for almost any winter activity.
