Emmett said it was the first place he has climbed that is similar to Helmcken Falls. “Top pitch we climbed is about M9/ 10. You couldn’t climb it if it wasn’t iced up, an amazing atmosphere next to the falls too; so fun. It’s out of this world.”

Paul McSorley and Tony Richardson establishe­d a number of new ice climbs around Squamish such as Cherry Garcia WI4, Amsterdam Café WI5, Goldilock Falls WI3, Tri-Full Tower WI4+ 100 m. Raphael Slawinski and Ian Welsted climbed the often looked at dr ip on the east face of the south summit of Mount Kidd, in Kananaskis Country, Alta., and named it Big Kidd WI5 M7+ 150 m. “We went around to the left and up Billy Goats Gruff WI3, ’cause the direct ice wasn’t in and the slab looked sketchy and time consuming,” said Welsted about the meander ing path up to Big Kidd, which hangs above a large bowl.
