Stanhope

Will Stanhope is from North Vancouver. “I spent most of my teenage years in the gym: breathing in chalk dust and dangling on plastic holds,” he says, “Under the tutelage of Andrew Wilson and Mike Doyle, I trained for climbing competitions and eventually started getting into trouble an hour north up the highway- in Squamish.” Stanhope was quick to repeat Trotter’s Cobra Crack. In 2009 he climbed the East Face of the Monkey Face 5.13d, in Smith Rocks. In 2010, with Alex Honnold, he climbed The Southern Belle 5.12dX, in Yosemite. Stanhope has linked the Grand Wall, Northern Lights, Freeway and University Wall, all free, in 14 and a half hours, “Northern Lights is scruffy, rough around the edges – much like Squamish in years past, less yogaand-granola, more bar-fights-and-str ippers.” Stanhope has soloed Separate Reality, the route made famous after Wolfgang Gullich soloed it, and two of Squamish’s hardest cracks, Sentry Box and Zombie Roof.
