Offset Cams
An offset cam
has four camming lobes, two are one size and the other two are a size smaller. This makes this spr ing-loaded camming device useful in Squamish or Val David or anywhere else there are pin scars or flared placements.They are essential when aid climbing and can be useful for free climbing. Offset cams are often the only cam which can protect a flared crack. These cams are meant for non-uniform placements. The two main offset cams are the X4 and the Master Cam.
X4 Offset The X4 Offset is designed to protect flar ing cracks like no other with their large expansion range and offset lobe design. They have a narrow head width, a flexible stem with aluminum beads meant to protect the cable and a colour-coded Dyneema sling for quick identification. These are BD’s newest cam and will hit the market this spr ing.
Master Cam Offset One of the first offset camming devices to hit the market, the first being the hybr id Alien offset. A single-stem cam with great flexibility, it has all of the benefits of the Master Cam, but can fit into awkward pin scars. A must-have for shallow, awkward cracks on any aid climb
