Nina Caprez takes on one of the hardest alpine sport routes

In August 2009, the Spanish brothers Eneko and Iker Pou, t wo of the world’s strongest climbers, made the f irst ascent of the 500 - metre Orbayu 5.14 on Naranjo de Bulnes in Astur ias, Picos de Europa, Spain which they descr ibed as their most important route ever. The route had been repeated only twice when Nina Caprez decided to project it.

Caprez grew up in the Swiss mountain valley of Prattigau. She projected Orbayu over two sessions in 2014. Her climbing partner Cédric Lechat became the f ifth person to send Orbayu, while Caprez managed to free ever y pitch, but did not send the route as a whole. Caprez currently lives in Grenoble, France. caught up with Caprez shortly after she returned home and asked her a few questions about her summer on Orbayu.
