of the country’s most enjoyable rock climbing is found on the cliffs of Northwestern Ontario. In fact, it might just be the best basalt climbing in Canada. Far from any metropolitan area – the closest city is Thunder Bay – the destination offers a remote feel, set on the shores of Lake Superior.
For decades, climbers have been coming and going. With a small scene of local climbers, Thunder Bay’s histor y has had bursts of development. When the r ight people have met up, often moving to the reg ion for universit y, new routes, walls and val leys have been uncovered.
