A Trip to Turkey
The top sport climbing destination of Geyikbayiri
It is early December and I decided to opt out of Quebec’s early star t to a cold winter. Rather than scraping the ice of f my car, I was enjoying a beautiful view of the Mediterranean coast as my plane landed in Antalya, Turkey. Once we were of f the plane I moved quick ly, if not anxiously, through the air port, eager to f ind my r ide to camp. I was eager to be on a climbing tr ip that had more to do with tufas than of f widths, fresh pomegranates rather than fresh snowfal l, and consistently good climbing weather rather than persistently marginal climbing conditions. More than that, I was eager to get away from it al l. After the most emotionally dif f icult months of my life, I needed a tr ip to help me reconnect with myself and my love of life. I f ig ured there is no better way of doing it than climbing with my girlfr iend Sara Violett and in one the most amazing countr ies I’ve visited: Turkey.
