Grivel’s Twin Gate “locking” carabiners take a little getting used to: the design is unique, and opening the gates can be awkward at f irst. But give it some time and practice at home and you’ll be surprised at how easy they are to manipulate. The idea is ingenious: take two straight gates and oppose their actions. The result is a carabiner that cannot be opened without physically manipulating one of the gates. The pear-shape offers high strength in a midweight size for a belay or master-point biner. A complete rethink of the locking carabiner, for the better.
