In April, the Piolets d’Or wil l take place in Chamonix and Courmayeur. British climber Chris Bonington was born in in the U.K. and will be awarded the seventh Lifetime Achievement Award. The previous recipients of the award were Walter Bonatti, Reinhold Messner, Doug Scott, Robert Paragot, Kurt Diemberger and John Roskelley. The Piolets d’Or said, “His achievements are milestones in the histor y of mountaineering in the Alps as in the Himalayas.”

16th annual championship took place in Wisconsin in February. Alex Puccio and Daniel Woods won their ninth National title. For the men’s, Mohammed Jafari took the overall win. Jafari is an Iranian climber who moved to Colorado with his wife in the fall of 2014. The exciting competition was streamed live and had over 3,000 online spectators.–
