Some of the highlights were John Turner’s Sweet Dreams, The Joke and Vertiginou­s. Turner lived in Montreal and later returned to his home i n the U.K. The Joke may have been the hardest free climb in Canada at the time. After the hut was built in the 1960 s, climbing developmen­t picked up. The propert y, cabin, boat and dock cost only $3,500.

In the mid-’ 60s, Helmut Microys started a new route spree and continued climbing at Bon Echo for the next 30 years. In 1966, he climbed a new route with Swiss climber Urs Kallen cal led The Rolling Stones 5.8
