Finding Adventure Off the Mainland

Winter, spring, summer or fall are a l l per fect times for a quest into the Howe Sound to go climbing. It is guaranteed to be an exciting, fun-f il led adventure. Endless deep water soloing, tons of new routing and routes that are world-class are cleaned, set up and ready to go. It’s fair to say that the Howe Sound is my, along with a group of good fr iend ’s favour ite place to go adventur ing. What I love so much about it are the log istics, preparatio­n and feeling from climbing a new route. I enjoy not knowing what the winds and tides are going to do. Whether there wil l be whitecaps and crashing waves. It is an adventure just to get to the rock. There are many amazing spots to explore.

In Februar y, 2015 we travel led to the south side of Anvil Island and it turned out to be the highlight of the winter. The sun and hot temperatur­es made it feel more like summer than winter. Jon Burrak, Trevor McDonald and I jumped on our inf latable paddle boards and paddled from Porto Cove. It took us t wo hours to paddle to Anvil. It was a great star t to the day. We spent 12 hours away from the mainland that day. We f inished a new line on the south side of Anvil Island that goes up some of the most spectacula­r overhangin­g granite on the B.C. coast.
