What decade saw the most development along the escarpment? For sheer route quantity, it was the mid-’ 70s to mid-’ 80s. But for real crag development, you would have to look at the mid-’ 80s to late-’ 90s – a period that coincided with the development of sport climbing and rap-bolting. These tactics allowed climbers to establish routes on the blank limestone faces that were previously considered unclimbable or unprotectable. A very exciting time and a significant break from our attempts to emulate the more traditional climbing scenes in places like California and Colorado.
