Climbers love books and there are plenty of choices from Canadian writers. Brandon Pullan’s available from Rocky Mountain Books ($45), won a Special Jury Mention at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival in 2016 for its portrayal of the development of Canada’s hard alpine climbing. David Smart’s
($19.95), available from Imaginary Mountain Surveyors is a gripping, fictionalized account of the making of one of the first mountaineering features in Chamonix during the occupation of France, and has already received great press from David Stevenson, the editor of the Canada’s leading mountain writer, Bernadette McDonald’s
also available from Rocky Mountain Books ($32 in hardcover), won the prize for non-fiction Mountain literature at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival in 2017 for its insightful and frank book about one of the greatest climbers ever.
