Moonlight and Snowline

-

There are few routes in the Rockies that are this good with so little avalanche hazard. These two parallel ice f lows are found up Evan Thomas Creek, east of Highway 40. Moonlight is often the fatter of the two and found on the left. Snowline is usually steeper and more technical. It’s a great introduction to WI4 climbing. They can be climbed in three pitches, but most climber do them in two. The upper caves behind the top curtains offer cool positions. Both are 100 m high.

Getting there: About 20 minutes down Highway 40, park at Evan Thomas Creek. Follow the wide trail east toward the river. Follow the river for 30 minutes until the climbs are obvious on the right.
