Twenty-year-old Becca Frangos was born and raised in Canmore, Alta, and is one of the most accomplished competition climbers of her generation. In 2015, she was the Youth Bouldering and Lead National Champion and the Open National Lead Champion in 2015. She has participated in the World Cup circuit and has been attending the University of Victoria for the past few years. Her first 5.13d was Labyrinth in Kalymnos and she has since climbed a number of other test-piece bolted climbs. climbing through my f irst few attempts on Fudge I knew it was possible whereas Endless felt impossible at f irst and the whole experience of projecting it over a few summers was a huge mental battle.
How close are you to 5.14a and is it a goal this year? The grade 5.14 is def initely a goal for this year. I’ve tried a few 5.14’ s over the last couple of years and some have felt doable and others not at all. Like anytime you’re pushing yourself I think a huge factor of whether something is worth spending time on is finding a route that suits your stature and style of climbing; I just don’t think I have found the right route yet, but I’m confident I will.
