Conrad Kain Hut

-

This amazing hut is found in Bugaboo Provincial Park in the jagged Purcell Mountains. Climbers from all over the world are drawn to the sculpted granite masses that rise into spectacular spires, some of which exceed 3,000 metres in elevation. Since the Palliser Expedition of 1857 to 1860, which first traversed the area and then named it for expedition sponsor Goodwin Purcell, these aweinspiring ranges have attracted miners, loggers and some of North America’s leading mountaineers.

The main spires climbers visit are The Howsers, Pidgeon, Snowpatch, Bugaboo and Crescent. There are dozens of classic routes, including the Kain Route on Bugaboo, the West Ridge of Pigeon, the Beckey/Chouinard, Surf’s Up, Ears Between, Sunshine Crack and McTech Arete.—Gripped
