Alannah Yip is Going to the Olympics
Alannah Yip won the Pan-american Championships in L.A. at the end of February and secured her spot at the Tokyo Olympics. Along with Sean Mccoll, she’ll be representing Canada at the Summer Games. Yip competed well in speed and bouldering, and like many combined events, it all came down to lead. She climbed to a high point, but didn’t know she had won when lowered to the ground. It wasn’t until Becca Frangos, Yip’s teammate who also competed in the Pan-am women’s finals, walked up and told her. Yip’s emotions were palpable as Frangos untied the figureeight knot from her harness. The Canadians in the audience then started to sing O Canada. It has taken a long time for climbing to get into the Olympics, and Canada has two athletes, so now we wait for officials to determine if the event will be cancelled due to the coronavirus.
