Z4 Ca­malots $85–$150

If you’re a trad climber, then hav­ing at least one rack of Black Di­a­mond Ca­malots is a must. The new Z4 cams re­place two cam lines, the C3 and the X4. To be flex­i­ble and rigid, Black Di­a­mond in­vented a Rigid­flex stem sys­tem that in­cludes wires that be­come ten­sioned and stiffen the sys­tem when the trig­ger is pulled. When you re­lease the trig­ger, the wires are no longer un­der ten­sion and it can flex. One dif­fer­ence be­tween the C3s (three-lobed cams) and the Z4s (four-lobed cams) is that the head width is vir­tu­ally the same. The Z4 range is seven cams: 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.75. Must-have pro­tec­tion for any trad climber.
