Alannah Yip’s First V12

Olympian Alannah Yip climbed the test-piece boulder problem Room Service V12 in Squamish. The first ascent was by Sean Mccoll in 2011, who said after his send: “Prow just left of Singularit­y. Start with your right hand on the rail, left hand on the arete as low as possible on the little crimp pinch.”

10-Year-old Crusher

Meini Li, 10, climbed her first 5.14 with China’s China Climb. Li is one of the top youth climbers in the country with dozens of podiums finishes at national comps in boulder, speed and lead over the past few years. She’s the youngest Chinese climber to send 5.14a and the third Chinese female after Ting Xiao and Weijun Huang.

Extreme Rock

James Mchaffie became the first climber to complete all 180 routes in Ken Wilson and Bernard Newman’s book Extreme Rock. He sent the last of the many hard route on May 26 with Raven Tor 5.13d.

New Russian 5.14d Climber

Crusher Dinara Fakhritdin­ova, 28, climbed Max Factor 5.14d at Bakhchisar­ay in Crimea. She’s the first Russian woman to send the grade.

Golden Gate Sends

This spring, Canadian Bronwyn Hodgins became the third woman to free Gold Gate 5.13, 36 pitches, on El Capitan. Shortly after, Amity Warme become the after five and a half days on the wall. It had been freed by Hazel Findlay and Emily Harrington in the past.

Yosemite Tripe Crown

In June, Jordan Cannon and Scott Bennett linked three Yosemite big walls in under 24 hours. The two top Valley climbers completed the Triple Crown, which includes The Nose, Half Dome and Watkins. Theirs might be only the sixth time it’s been completed in a push.

El Cap Speed Record

Brandon Adams and Roger Putnam climbed the aid route Iron Hawk in 15 hours and 37 minutes, taking 15 hours off the record set by Ammon Mcneely and Cedar Wright in 2004.

Hard New Brunswick R/X

Peter Adamson made the first ascent of a bold trad route at Eagle Rock in New Brunswick that he’s called Hookshot R/X. Adamson said, “This route climbs a beautiful face/arete, but the protection leaves a bit to be desired … tensioned hooks, micro cams, and brassies, you definitely don’t want to fall.”—gripped
