House & Home

YOUR LETTERS

OUR READERS HAVE THEIR SAY.

Congratulations, and thank you for your “Life on a River” article in the July-August issue of House & Home.

I was very happy to see you venture beyond the GTA and Muskoka to feature what is Ontario’s best kept secret — the Thousand Islands. This area that runs from Kingston, Ont., to Brockville, Ont., has all the granite and sculptured pine trees of Muskoka except for one thing… black flies!

— GRANT ROGERS, Brockville, Ont.

The July-August issue of House & Home arrived in my mailbox today! I’m very excited, and very thankful to you diligent workers who have put an issue together under difficult circumstances — it’s much appreciated. I would have understood if it proved to be impossible to continue working, but I’m happy you found a way.

— LORRAINE SKINNER, Victoria

Oh, how I’ve loved getting my JulyAugust issue of House & Home. The sky, water, trees and rocks in these images of summer homes and cottages keep me inspired and grateful to live in this beautiful country with its bountiful nature visuals. Whether we’re at a cottage, camping, at a local park or just chilling in our own yard, it’s a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by such natural beauty.

— BARB ANDERSSON, Ottawa

I always look forward to your summer issues on cottages, and your JulyAugust issue didn’t disappoint, as it showed regular families (with kids even!) in average-size houses decorated practically and nicely. I live in New England, and there’s no design magazine that compares to House & Home. Thank you for the great reading material and sparking ideas for me while we stay at home. — ROSEMARY B., South Shore, Mass.

I’m writing to say that, as a subscriber of your magazine for more than 20 years, I’m ashamed that I never questioned the lack of diversity in your pages or online features. You often featured the same few designers repeatedly, which I did question, but shame on me for not asking why a more diverse group of talented people wasn’t featured. Hooray for including them now, and I hope it continues. Keep up the good work!

— JENNIFER BRACKEN, Oakville, Ont.

Since my first issue of House & Home in the summer of 1986 (when I was delighted to find a magazine that catered to the average Canadian and I rushed to subscribe), I’ve seen a change in the content over the years — it’s become more focused on the upscale market. A touch of today’s reality would be a breath of fresh air. One can only dream so big!

— PENNY MOFFATT, Ballantrae, Ont.

I would love to see small-space solutions for setting up a home office in an upcoming issue. A lot of us will now be working from home indefinitely, so we need to make room for a dedicated space. A feature like this would be so helpful!
