YOUR LETTERS
OUR READERS HAVE THEIR SAY.
I normally gravitate to neutral spaces with loads of white but, wow, the KohlyMuni home (“Modern Family,” JanFeb) designed by Ali Budd is stunning! Absolutely gorgeous, and it has me reassessing my aversion to colour.
I’ve read H&H since the beginning, and your magazine continues to inspire me. — VICTORIA RANDALL, Oakville, Ont.
My heart swelled with happiness to see the smiling kids of South Asian descent on the cover foldout (“Modern Family,” Jan-Feb). Thank you for showing this family in their beautiful home.

Your Jan-Feb issue is amazing! You showed me many things I’ve never seen before. I found the trends very interesting and the “Modern Family” home — wow! I’ll be subscribing for many more years to come.
— M. ISOLA, South Surrey, B.C.
I enjoyed “On the Same Page,” (Jan-Feb) in which the homeowners, Adam and Ryan, supported their friend’s new business and hired him to renovate their home. I have to say, Joel Bray did not disappoint. This may be one of my all-time favourite renos in H&H. One day, I’ll be making a call to Joel!
— NATHALIE LEONARD, Burlington, Ont.
As a longtime subscriber, I particularly enjoyed The Paint Report (“New
Year, New Hue,” Jan-Feb). In 2010, I fashioned a country kitchen after a layout I saw in your magazine.
I used white polished subway tile and paint as illustrated in the article. The colour was Farrow & Ball’s Mouse’s Back. I’ve received many compliments on my kitchen over the years, so it was terrific to learn this hue remains so popular a decade later. Many thanks for my gorgeous timeless kitchen!
— MICHELLE SIMSON, Hastings, Ont.
Michael Smith and his daughter Ariella’s recipe for Real Bread (“What’s Cooking?,” Jan-Feb) was a hit. So easy to make and no kneading. I added a wee bit of molasses as my main tastertester is from the Rock and he says homemade bread must have molasses! — MARION SUDDS, Mallorytown, Ont.
LOW-TECH, HIGH STYLE
A big Amen to Lynda Reeves for going low-tech in her lakehouse (“Details, Details,” Jan-Feb). I’ve never liked the idea of a computer named Alexa nattering at me, or needing my phone for everyday tasks. This really resonates now, when we’re all craving person-to-person interactions over screen time. We all need a reason to get up off the couch, even if it’s only to turn on the lights or check the “bird!” — JOANNE HALL, Calgary
I’ve been enjoying Lynda’s lakehouse reno and all the great advice she offers. I loved her “Low Tech” paragraph in the Jan-Feb issue. I’m with her 150 per cent. Please make a whole article on that topic and make going low-tech a trend. I, too, am looking for a simpler and less frustrating way of life!
— DRAGICA SOBOT, Hamilton
