LEG 1: OSHAWA TO CINCINNATI 917 km
Originally, I selected Cincinnati as my layover city on night one in the U.S. because I thought it was reasonably close to Bowling Green. Turns out, it's approximately three and half hours away – not so close.
Picking Cincinnati made sense though, I thought, because it's a major city and I'd be able to find reasonably cheap accommodations. It's also reachable from Oshawa in one day – although still quite far at 917 km (569 miles) – plus it would make for a shorter drive to Bowling Green the following morning.
By far the worst leg of the trip was from Oshawa to the Peace Bridge border crossing in Fort Erie, Ontario. Not only did I have to contend with the usual high volume of traffic on every highway along the route, but there is also a section of the Queen Elizabeth Way near Niagara Falls that has been reduced to one lane (with closed on-ramps) in each direction. I had to exit the QEW in St. Catharines, Ontario for a last-minute pitstop and was unable to get back
