SHORT SUMMER, LONG ON ACTION
ANOTHER BUSY SUMMER ARMS RACING SEASON IS IN THE BOOKS
And what a fantastic summer of competition it was for ARMS, its clubs and the membership.
Race saw an increase in the number of cars competing with some new race cars and several new drivers.
In addition to new classes, there was also a bit of drama this season, with not only tight battles for various championships, but also off-track as well, when a race car and trailer were stolen after competing only once. Fortunately, through the great work of the local RCMP detachment and pressure from social media, the car and trailer were recovered with only minimal damage.
Autoslalom saw an increase in the number of competitors over the summer with a couple of new venues as well as most of the old being put to good use again. The biggest improvement in venues is Atlantic Sports Car Club as it was granted access to a portion of the now decommissioned long runway at CFB Shearwater in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Great competition as usual at our two three-day Regional Events the Digby Double and Slalom @ Slemon, although the weather was a little wet at Digby.
The ARMS Timeattack Challenge was held again this year at Atlantic Motorsport Park. The Challenge is a three-day event with both passing and non-passing Time Attack runs. A great time was had by all who attended.
Karting has also seen an increase in the number of competitors with the Novice, Junior and Senior classes all growing. What's especially encouraging us the number of karters moving over to compete in road racing, and there are also a few road racers who now compete in karting.
Elsewhere, Rally Sprint and Performance rally are continuing to grow in the Region, with several local cars ready for competition and a couple of others are being built. The Ledwidge Look off Rally had another successful event with 11 teams competing.
We are a small Region and as such most members get involved in all aspects of motor sport in the Region. You may drive a race car at Atlantic Motorsport Park this weekend, and then work a rally stage or flag at a kart race the following weekend. And there was plenty to do this summer – there was some form of motor sport activity going on every weekend all summer.
It was a great summer even if it was way too short.
t's hard to believe that summer is over and fall is here already. It seems we were just getting started with the summer competition season and here we are now four months later with another racing season now wrapped up.
