Inuit Art Quarterly

Message from the President

- Jimmy Manning

This issue marks both the end of the calendar year and the last in our first year of themed issues. Several interesting topics have been covered so far. I am especially pleased to share this issue on photography with you, which features artists from across the North and reviews of exhibitions curated exclusively by Inuit for the first time.

I would also like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Annie Pootoogook, whose loss is deeply felt both in our small community and beyond. I first met Annie when, as a young girl, she would follow her mother Napachie Pootoogook to the Kinngait Studios. As the years passed, Annie herself began to draw, producing images that, like her, were full of life. Her talent was unmistakable. She was able to clearly share her feelings through her work and delivered important messages about life in the North to audiences around the world. We will miss her dearly.

On behalf of the Inuit Art Foundation, I want to thank our team for their hard work this year. I want to wish our staff, the members of our Board of Directors and all of you a safe holiday season and all the very best in the new year.
