Kenojuak Ashevak on the Canadian Ten Dollar Bill

-

This past April, the Bank of Canada’s Governor Stephen S. Poloz and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor unveiled a commemorative $10 banknote, celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The design for the commemorative bill incorporates Kenojuak Ashevak’s, OC, RCA (1927-2013), stonecut and stencil print Owl’s Bouquet (2007). Reproduced as a holographic rendering, the work can be found in the banknote’s transparent window. This is only the second time an original artwork has been reproduced on a Canadian banknote and the first time a work by an Inuk artist has been featured.
