Inuit Art at the Venice Bi­en­nale

The late Kanang­i­nak Pootoo­gook, RCA (1935-2010) is the first Inuit artist to par­tic­i­pate in the Venice Bi­en­nale, which opened on May 13, 2017. Fel­low Cana­di­ans Ha­jra Wa­heed and 2016 Sobey Award win­ner Jeremy Shaw join Pootoo­gook in the fair’s cen­tral ex­hi­bi­tion Viva Arte Viva while Van­cou­ver artist Ge­of­frey Farmer presents work in the Cana­dian Pavil­ion. Cu­rated by Chris­tine Ma­cel, Chief Cu­ra­tor of the Cen­tre Pom­pi­dou, the 57th In­ter­na­tional Art Ex­hi­bi­tion in­cludes works from 120 artists, hail­ing from over 55 coun­tries, mounted across both the Arse­nale and the Cen­tral Pavil­ion of the Giar­dini.
