Inuit Art at the Venice Biennale
The late Kananginak Pootoogook, RCA (1935-2010) is the first Inuit artist to participate in the Venice Biennale, which opened on May 13, 2017. Fellow Canadians Hajra Waheed and 2016 Sobey Award winner Jeremy Shaw join Pootoogook in the fair’s central exhibition Viva Arte Viva while Vancouver artist Geoffrey Farmer presents work in the Canadian Pavilion. Curated by Christine Macel, Chief Curator of the Centre Pompidou, the 57th International Art Exhibition includes works from 120 artists, hailing from over 55 countries, mounted across both the Arsenale and the Central Pavilion of the Giardini.
