Jade Nasogaluak Carpenter and Jesse Tungilik Awarded Major Residencies
For the first time, the Canadian Art Foundation in partnership with TD Bank Group have awarded both opportunities in their North South Artist Exchange Program to Inuit artists. In an innovative reimagining of the program, Iqaluit-based artist Jesse Tungilik will be undertaking a residency at the Banff Centre, while Calgary-based Jade Nasogaluak Carpenter will be heading to the Northwest Territories. Both the IAF’s Executive Director Alysa Procida and Board Member Heather Igloliorte served on this year’s jury.
Nasogaluak Carpenter and Tungilik have both been featured in recent issues of the Inuit Art Quarterly: Nasogaluak Carpenter was most recently the subject of Spring 2018’s Profile (31.1), while Tungilik was featured in Choice in the IAQ’s Fall 2016 issue (29.3).
