Jade Na­so­galuak Car­pen­ter and Jesse Tungi­lik Awarded Ma­jor Res­i­den­cies

For the first time, the Cana­dian Art Foun­da­tion in part­ner­ship with TD Bank Group have awarded both op­por­tu­ni­ties in their North South Artist Ex­change Pro­gram to Inuit artists. In an in­no­va­tive reimag­in­ing of the pro­gram, Iqaluit-based artist Jesse Tungi­lik will be un­der­tak­ing a res­i­dency at the Banff Cen­tre, while Cal­gary-based Jade Na­so­galuak Car­pen­ter will be head­ing to the North­west Ter­ri­to­ries. Both the IAF’s Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Alysa Pro­cida and Board Mem­ber Heather Iglo­liorte served on this year’s jury.

Na­so­galuak Car­pen­ter and Tungi­lik have both been fea­tured in re­cent is­sues of the Inuit Art Quar­terly: Na­so­galuak Car­pen­ter was most re­cently the sub­ject of Spring 2018’s Pro­file (31.1), while Tungi­lik was fea­tured in Choice in the IAQ’s Fall 2016 is­sue (29.3).
