Machinthesand torches top class
‘Willie’ gets 60th lifetime victory
Machinthesand, in line to Norris Rogers, used a first-over journey to overpower fractionsetter Motorino to take the Wednesday feature at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway. The seven-year-old son of Mach Three positioned himself in the three-hole from Post 6, before making his move just past the half and stopping the clock in 1:55.3. It was Machinthesand’s sixth win of the season for Noonan Holdings Ltd., Russell and Karen Noonan. Hughie Murphy handles the training duties. Motorino laid down fractions of 28 seconds, 58 seconds and 1:26.3, and held tough to be second while Painted Desert picked up the show prize.
Milestone
Veteran free-legged pacer Blu Meadow Willie added his name to an elusive category, when he crossed the finish line first in Race 6. The 12-year-old son of Drop Off picked up his 60th lifetime victory in his 282nd lifetime start for co-owners Bob and Brenda MacInnis. Walter Cheverie engineered the winning trip, getting up by a neck to win in 2:01.4.
Driving double
Cheverie picked up the driving double scoring in Race 7 with Alex Sobey-trainee Send measign. Corey MacPherson also scored a driving double, winning with Minor Wisdom for Kristina McCourt and closing out the card with his own trainee, Useful Hanover. Racing returns to Summerside on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The card will feature the twoyear-old colts and fillies in the Joe O’Brien and Lady Slipper Stakes.
