U19 United off to provincial final

Gallant shines in goal for Summerside in win over Stratford squad

The Summerside United will play in the Subway P.E.I. Under19 Girls Soccer League championsh­ip game in Stratford on Saturday.

A 4-1 victory over Stratford in a provincial semifinal game at Eric Johnston Field on Monday evening punched the United’s ticket to the winner-take-all final. At Eric Johnston Field, the United received a strong game from keeper Lauren Gallant, who delivered a number of outstandin­g saves to turn back several strong Stratford attacks. Summerside opened the scoring against Stratford as Kelsey MacKinnon found the back of the net from 25 yards out at the 33-minute mark. Hope DesRoche increased Summerside’s lead to 2-0 on a great individual effort six minutes later as the United took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Kate Doiron got Stratford on the board in the 64th minute, but Brianna Gunning restored Summerside’s two-goal lead in the 80th minute. DesRoche closed out the scoring

going to semifinals

The Summerside Team Two United is moving on in the Subway P.E.I. Under-12 Girls Soccer League’s (First Division) playoffs. The United advanced to the semifinals on Aug. 29 after a 2-1 win over Stratford Team Two in a wet affair at Eric Johnston Field on Monday night.

Enya Neill’s goal with 10 minutes remaining broke a 1-1 tie, and lifted Summerside to victory.

Neil dribbled the ball towards Stratford’s goal, and as the keeper came out to challenge she buried the ball low on the far side. Striker Abby Lawlor opened the scoring for the United at the 13-minute mark, and Hailey Murphy scored from 20 yards out to pull Stratford even in the second half. Alayna Trenholm had a clean sheet for the United in the first half, and Aidan Murphy tended goal in the second half as Summerside extended its unbeaten

streak to six games. Ross leads RC United in under-16 girls contest

Jenaya Ross scored two goals to lead RC United to a 5-0 win over West Prince in a Subway P.E.I. Under-14 Girls Soccer League (First Division) game on Tuesday evening. Emma Arsenault, Maria McLane and Margaret Ryan added single goals while Taylor Campbell earned the shutout. RC United held a 2-0 lead at halftime.
