Three Oaks Team Two squads drop semifinal games

The P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n senior A and AA basketball semifinals, for both boys and girls, are taking place in high schools across the province.

The Kensington Intermedia­te-Senior High School (KISH) Torchettes will play for a P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n (PEISAA) basketball gold medal.

The Torchettes defeated the Kinkora Blazers 46-26 in an A girls’ semifinal on Wednesday night.

KISH will face the Charlottet­own Rural Team Two Raiders in the championsh­ip game. All of the senior A medal games will be played at Holland College in Charlottet­own on Friday. The start times will be announced Thursday.

Rural defeated the Three Oaks Team Two Axewomen 34-23 in the other semifinal. The Axewomen and Blazers will play for the bronze medal.

The senior A boys’ provincial final will feature Francois Buote taking on the Morell Marlins.

Francois Buote outlasted Colonel Gray Team Two 57-42 in one of two semifinals. Morell rallied for an 80-69 win over the Three Oaks Team Two Axemen in the other.

Kensington 46 Kinkora 26

Abby Donald scored a gamehigh 16 points to lead the Torchettes, who received a 12point effort from Callie Champion and seven from Chloe Champion.

Rachell Green, Rebecca

Green and Maggy McGrath all recorded six points for the Blazers. Kensington held quarter leads of 10-8, 22-14 and 33-24.

Rural Team Two 34 Three Oaks Team Two 23

The host Raiders, led by Molly Birthwhist­le’s 10 points, took a 16-12 lead into the second half. Kami Chaisson and Kate MacIntosh each chipped in with six points.

For Three Oaks, Jordyn Connell led the way an eightpoint effort while Hailey van-Duinkerken and Melanie Rodger each added six points.

Morell 80 Three Oaks Team Two 69

The Axemen, led by Matt Enman’s four three-point shots, got off to a strong start, and took a seven-point lead – 42-35 – into halftime.

The Marlins regrouped in the second half, and took away the Axemen’s outside shot. Thomas Craig asserted himself down low, and was able to take over in the second half with 23 points and 13 boards. Carson Van Diepen sank 18 points, and Sam Stewart added 12.

Enman (20) and Owen Turner (10) were the Axemen’s top offensive producers.

Francois Buote 57 Colonel Gray 42

Sam Carmody’s 18-point performanc­e led the way for Francois Buote. Nate Arsenault recorded 12 points on the strength of four three-pointers, and Matthew Arsenault chipped in with eight point. Matthew Doyle (10), Sam Compton (8) and Christian Morrison (6) were Gray’s top point-getters.
