IKEA Canada launches Charlottetown collection point

Islanders can now shop online and choose to collect their IKEA purchases from a new Charlottetown collection point for $59.

“This represents a great savings over the cost of home delivery,” said Amanda Fitzpatrick of IKEA Canada.

The flat rate will remain the same regardless of the size or value of a purchase. Home delivery is still available at rates determined by size and weight of the shipment.

IKEA collection points are not retail outlets and don’t have product on display. They are located at Sameday Worldwide courier locations, which is where people go to pick up their IKEA shipment.

In Charlottetown that is the same office as the Day & Ross Transportation Group, on Day Avenue, off the Sherwood Road near where the Confederation Trail crosses.

IKEA set up a similar system in other Atlantic provinces.

“In such a large country, it is important to offer a variety of solutions we can use to make shopping easier for Canadians,” said Liz Wilson, vice--resident, IKEA Canada.

In 2015, IKEA Canada announced that it wanted to double in size by 2025. It plans to open new stores in new locations and introduce some new formats over the next 10 years. The first new store of the expansion will be IKEA Halifax, set to open this fall.

The company has opened other collection points across Canada, plus pick-up and order points, improvements in e-commerce and what it calls “customer-focused distribution.”
