The Summerside business community officially welcomed seven new physicians to the city Thursday.
The Summerside business community welcomed seven new physicians to the city Thursday.
Some of the doctors have been living here for a couple of years but all were officially fêted during a mixer at the Eptek Culture Centre at the invitation of the Summerside and Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Nihat Bhuiyan, an anesthetist at Prince County Hospital, and his family arrived in August, 2015.
They are originally from the U.K.
“We wanted to move to Canada
for a better quality of life,” said Bhuiyan.
“We’d visited (Canada), but not lived here before – so it was a bit of an adventure.”
Holding an official ‘welcome to the community’ event is a nice touch, he added, and not something they’ve experienced before.
“It’s a nice approach to welcome someone to a community – in England they wouldn’t have this approach of welcoming doctors to the community, they wouldn’t have anything like this. So this makes you feel welcome,” he said. Dan Kutcher, president of the chamber of commerce, said that over time, the chamber has seen the benefit of welcoming doctors and ensuring that they and their families make connections and, hopefully, put down roots for a long and happy life and career.
“They are such an integral part of our community and the business community recognizes their ongoing contribution as physicians in terms of helping and caring for those of us in need, but as well as business persons themselves because a number of physicians practice as professional corporations,” said Kutcher.
Incidentally, two of the doctors welcomed Thursday have a family connection to Kutcher: his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Matthew Kutcher and Dr. Martha Carmichael.
