Community Theatre Festival celebrating World Theatre Day
The annual P.E.I. Community Theatre Festival is gearing up to celebrate this year’s milestone anniversary.
The festival, set for March 11 will mark the 56th celebration of World Theatre Day at the Carrefour in Charlottetown.
Six short plays will run every 45 minutes in a smorgasbord of comedy featuring classical, farcical, charming dramas, legend telling and improv.
On P.E.I. there are about two dozen local drama groups consisting of hundreds of amateur actors and backstage workers who make performances happen.

– The Murray Players, “A Partridge in a Pear Tree”
– ACT (a community theatre), “The Dining Room”
– A.R. Gurney’s portrayal of the family life of the privileged – Mi’kmaq Heritage Actors will act out several new tellings of imaginative legends built around Glooscap, creation, an oak tree and a berry patch
– The Kings Players, “Pygmalion” – Spotlight School of Arts will provide a theatre-game improv.

The Carrefour’s doors open at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March
11.
Plays will begin at 1 p.m. and run until around 5:30 p.m. There will be 15-minute breaks between plays.
