STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Congratula­tions to our most recent Student of the Week -Louanne DesRoches.

VIMY 2017

This year marks the 100th year since the Battle at Vimy Ridge. There will be 20 KRHS students and three staff members attending the commemorat­ion ceremony at the Vimy Ridge monument on April 9. As well, students will be visiting London, Normandy (Juno Beach), Beaumont Hamel (Battle of the Somme), and Paris. Students will be researchin­g soldiers who fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge and a personal veteran.

They will present informatio­n on their personal veteran on Veteran’s Night at Credit Union Place on March 16. All are welcome to attend.

YEARBOOK PARENT ADS DEADLINE EXTENDED

All yearbook parent ads will be a quarter page in size and the cost is $50 per ad. Deadline has been extended to Friday, March 17.

2017 GRAD NEWS

The grads will be voting for their 2017 valedictor­ian during the month of March. Interested grads are to submit their names to Jaime Cole.

On March 30, the grads are going to an Island Storm basketball game as special guests.

The grad class is looking for parents interested in hosting the annual grad barbecue after the last final exam in June as well as the annual grad breakfast on the morning of graduation (June 22). Contact Jaime Cole if you are interested in hosting either of these events at your home.

BLAZER SPORTS

Open Gym – There will be Open Gym after school on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3-4 p.m.

Senior Women’s Basketball – The Blazer girl’s basketball team lost their bronze medal game on March 3 to TOSH by a close score of 39-33. Alexis Mulligan was the high scorer with 15 points, followed by 7 points for Elizabeth Phillips and 6 for Rachel Green.

Well done, girls. Congrats to Seniors Maggy McGrath, Rachel Green and Alexis Mulligan.

PROFESSION­AL DEVELOPMEN­T UPDATE

March 10 is the School Goal Day for the high school. Staff will continue to work on strategies to improve instructio­n such as the Big 3.

The Big 3 are learner goals, co-constructe­d feedback, and descriptiv­e feedback. The staff will also continue to develop strategies to further develop student literacy and numeracy skills.

KRHS SCHOOL COUNCIL

Next meeting of the KRHS School Council is March 29 at 7 p.m. All parents/guardians are most welcome.

STUDENTBIZ

The StudentBiz program supports entreprene­urs between the ages of 16-24 who are still students and wish to establish a summer business. StudentBiz gives its participan­ts $1,000 (non-repayable) to its participan­ts for business startup costs; offers a $1,000 loan to those participan­ts to further their business’s goals; and, at program’s end, gives the student entreprene­ur a $500 stipend towards their education.
