Two-times the treat

Second Frosty Treat to open in the coming weeks

- BY MILLICENT MCKAY

Two is better than one, right? For Brody Ellis and his family they’re hoping that proves true as they prepare to open their second Frosty Treat location. “There was an opportunity to buy the location of the old Johnny’s Dairy Bar, so we acted on it,” said Ellis, one of Frosty Treat’s owners.

“We’re always looking to expand our capacity of the Frosty Treat brand and this gave us the chance.”

The original Frosty Treat has served food since 1973, and Ellis hopes to see both locations prosper for many more years.

“We’re getting antsy and excited. It will come with new challenges but we want to see the brand continue to grow. “There’s more than one coffee shop in Kensington so why not more than one Frosty Treat?”

To Ellis’s surprise, they aren’t located on the same road, despite being across the street from one another.

“The original is located on

Victoria Street, where the new location is actually on the Veterans Memorial Highway, which was a surprise since they’re so close.”

Ellis is planning on keeping the appearance of the former Johnny’s the same, with the

same striped building, miniputt and other lawn decals.

“For now it’s going to stay the same. It’s a work in progress so things might change.”

But don’t fear, no major changes are coming to the menu.

“They’re going to be on par.

We’re going to try to keep them the same. Some things might get tweaked a little, but they’ll be close. We’re also keeping the dining area at the new location so people can sit in and take out.”

Ellis says they’re grateful for the business P.E.I. brings to Frosty Treat.

“We try to support local as much as we can because they support us. Our product is as Island-based as we can get, with ADL ice cream and other menu items.”

This year, Frosty Treat is also participating in Burger Love.

“We want to celebrate P.E.I. beef and join in the fun.

“Hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to expand and provide more Islanders with ice cream and other local products this summer.”
