The largely attendance funeral for René Joseph Maddix beloved husband of the late Alice (nee Gallant) Maddix of Urbainvill­e, was held on Saturday March 18th, 2017 from the Evangeline Co-op Funeral Home, Urbainvill­e then to St. Philippe and St. Jacques Church, Egmont Bay where funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. The funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Albin Arsenault assisted by Fr. Michel Painchaud. Fr. Arsenault proclaimed the gospel, delivered a very moving homily and did the prayers of final commendati­on and farewell. Daughter Claudette and her husband Theodore Theriault did the readings and prayers of the faithful. The community church choir sang under the direction of niece Debbie Rousselle-Montgomery. Louise Arsenault, friend and neighbour, played “Amazing Grace” on the fiddle. The cross bearer was son Réginald Maddix and the candle bearers were sons Robert and Jean-Louis Maddix. Active pallbearer­s were grandchild­ren Jason, Brody and Keenan Maddix, Remi Thériault, John Walsh and Samantha Enman. Flower bearers were grand-daughters Tania Bernard and Paula Walsh, son Roger Maddix, and daughters Stella Walsh and Marcia Enman. Eucharisti­c ministers were Roger Arsenault and Eric Montgomery. Honorary pallbearer­s were Allie McLellan, John Phillips, Borden Boyles, Desmond and Yvonne Arsenault, Roger and Florence Gillis, Stephen Arsenault, Kim Campbell, Ronald and Juliette Arsenault, Alfred and Janita Arsenault, Marie McCarthy, Carl Proude, Louise Arsenault and Honorable Sonny Gallant and his wife Linda. The family was honored to have in attendance Honorable Wade MacLauchla­n, Premier of PEI. Groups attending the funeral were members of the Wellington Fire Department, the Constructi­on Associatio­n of P.E.I., AJL Ltd. and La Voix acadienne. Interment will take place in the St Philippe and St Jacques church cemetery at a later date.
