P.E.I. man faces firearms, assault charges after melee with father
A 21-year-old man faces assault and firearms charges after an incident with his father Wednesday night in Kings County.
Shortly after 11 p.m., the RCMP were called to a residence in a rural area of Kings County where an assault had allegedly taken place between a father and a son.
Before officers could arrive, police received a second call from the residence alleging that a firearm had been shot into the air.
Officers from the Kings and Queens districts attended the residence and arrested the 21-year-old outside the residence without incident and with the assistance of a police service dog. The RCMP says thee long guns were seized from the residence.
The alleged assault victim was treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries.
The 21-year-old was charged with assault causing bodily harm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and a breach of probation.
He appeared in court in Georgetown on Thursday and was released on conditions of an undertaking. The accused will appear in court to answer to the charges at a later date.
The RCMP would not release the name of the accused until he appaears in court again.
The investigation is ongoing.
