Shamrock resident named KRHS student-athlete of the month
Callie Thomson, a Grade 11 student from Shamrock, has been chosen as the Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month at Kinkora Regional High School. Thomson competed in four different sports while also being very active with different school organizations.
It has been a very busy Grade 11 year for Callie Thomson at Kinkora Regional High School (KRHS).
The 17-year-old daughter of Trent and Tracy Thomson of Shamrock wore the Blazers’ blue and gold colours in four sports while also being very active with school organizations. As a result of her efforts, Callie has been selected as the Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub studentathlete of the month at KRHS.
Callie’s resumé this year included playing the power position in both spring and fall volleyball, third base in softball, singles in badminton and three events in track and field – triple jump, long jump and shot put.
“Callie had a great season this year playing volleyball and softball,” said KRHS athletic director Trent Ranahan. “For both sports, she has developed her skills to a higher level of play.
“In return, she is a great mentor to our younger athletes, and is a valuable asset to our women’s programs here at KRHS.”
Outside of school
Outside of school, Callie is a member of the Summerside Toshidokan Judo Club, and is a member of the provincial under-18 female softball team.
Callie served as an executive member of student council for the 2016-17 school year, and she has been voted as president for her senior year. Along with serving as the yearbook photographer, Callie is also a member of the jazz and concert bands. Callie was also recently presented with the bronze medal for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Callie’s plans following high school are to become a dentist.
