Collège de l’île holding two graduation ceremonies to accommodate varying program schedules
Collège de l’île has celebrated it’s the first of two graduation ceremonies for the 2017 graduation season.
On June 20, the college hosted the first ceremony for the bilingual administrative assistant, accounting clerk and human resources courses.
“Collège de lîle’s strategic goal is to offer programs providing the technical and language skills that meet the needs of the job market,” said Donald DesRoches, president of the college.
“All students in our college programs have to complete internships in businesses and specialized workplaces as hospitals and care homes in order to graduate.”
The college’s second ceremony will be held in January 2018.
This year, a human resources graduate will receive the Governor General’s Academic Medal.
Janice Bernard, a single mother with three children and full time mature student, has had to deal with the transition and balance her work and family life.
She grew up in an Acadian family in West Prince. Throughout schooling, Bernard became a mentor as well as a part-time educational assistant to a young girl, accompanying her to various recreational activities that were previously inaccessible to her.
Having experienced difficult situations herself, Janice wants to make a difference in the lives of youth with special needs, helping young people to overcome their challenges.
