Free family fun in North Rustico

Habitat for Humanity P.E.I. partners with Rustico to host fun day

-

In celebration of Canada’s 150th, Habitat for Humanity P.E.I. has teamed with That Fun Place and the town of Rustico to host That Fun Day on July 9.

Attractions will include a large inflatable obstacle course, a bouncy castle, and a bungee run.

There will be face painting, a barbecue, snow cones, and a number of other fun surprises. Habitat Canada is building 150 homes all across the country for Canada’s 150th, and That Fun Day celebrates this project and Habitat for Humanity P.E.I.’s contribution.

That Fun Day will kick off the Habitat for Humanity P.E.I. build in Rustico for the Lowe family, the 60th Habitat home built on the Island.

“One of the things I love about Habitat for Humanity is that every interest-free mortgage payment gets reinvested into a revolving fund to help build future homes,” says Sophia Ball, Habitat’s director of resource development.

“It’s an incredibly sustainable model, in that the more families we do help, the more families we can help. We’re so excited to celebrate this milestone.”

“As tiring and overwhelming as this process has been, nothing is more gratifying than making something with your own hands,” says Deanna Lowe, 2017 partner family.

“We are helping build our own home – and that feeling is amazing.

“It shows my two boys that if you want something you have to work for it, and that nothing in life is handed to you. But you can’t do it all on your own either.

“Habitat often brings communities together on their build sites.

“I volunteered on another family’s build site recently, and so many people from the community showed up to make that build possible,” added Lowe. “That’s one of the things I love about P.E.I. – we may be small but we’re mighty.”

Bring the whole family to Seawalk Park, North Rustico, to celebrate Habitat for Humanity P.E.I.’s 60th build on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. affordable, no-interest mortgage geared to the family’s income level.

– For every $1 spent on a Habitat build, about $4 of benefits accrue to society.

– The average Habitat home generates $175,000 of benefits to society.
