‘Searching For Abegweit’ opens at Harbourfront Theatre

-

“Searching For Abegweit: The Island Songs and Stories of Lennie Gallant” opened on Tuesday for its limited run of eight performances at Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre this summer.

One of P.E.I.’s most renowned musical sons, Gallant’s career has spawned a string of ECMA and Juno nominations and awards, as well as the illustrious Order of Canada for his contribution to Canadian culture. Most recently, he garnered 2017 ECMA wins for Folk Recording of the Year and Fans Choice Entertainer of the Year. Hailed as a runaway theatrical hit with a solid track record of 120 full house performances, “Searching For Abegweit: The Island Songs and Stories of Lennie Gallant” is a musical love letter to Prince Edward Island that stars the artist himself. It presents his folk, roots and rock music, alongside comedic stories, Island legends,

and poignant tales in a multimedia format that uses film, and hundreds of paintings from P.E.I. visual artist and Lennie’s sister, Karen Gallant.

Sharing the stage with Gallant are nephews Jonathan Gallant

on vocals and percussion and Jeremy on piano, fiddler Sean Kemp, and Acadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Patricia Richard. Following the opening performance, “Searching For

Abegweit” will play July 12, 25, 26, Aug. 8, 9, 22 and 23. Curtain time for all shows is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Harbourfront Theatre’s box office or online at www.harbourfronttheatre.com.
