The popular Island bluegrass band, Dunromin, has welcomed a new member to the group – Jim Dickson, a vocalist and banjo player, who will be joining in their next concert set for Friday at King George Hall in Port Hill.

With Dickson in the fray, band performances will include the “brother songs” and traditional bluegrass numbers featuring fiddle, banjo, guitars, mandolin, dobro and upright bass.

Dunromin formed in 2002 with friends Vans Bryant and Harold Noye singing Jim and Jesse, the Osborne Brothers and the Louvin Brothers songs.

In their performances Noye would take lead vocals and guitar, accompanied by Noye’s wife, Marnie on upright bass. From there, the trio performed regularly at concerts, community events and bluegrass festivals on and off the Island until the end of 2009. For six years the band took a break, but reunited in 2015 and returned to the studio to record a second project, “Memories.” This recording earned Dunromin a nomination for a 2016 P.E.I. Music Award in the Roots/Traditional category. In 2015, the group welcomed John Campbell to the group, taking the role of fiddler and singer. Dunromin’s entertaining style includes strong instrumentation, tight-knit vocals, humour and audience rapport. Their Aug. 11 show starts at 7:30 p.m. at King George Hall. Admission is $5. A light lunch will be served.
