East Wiltshire girls claim intermediate AA championship
The East Wiltshire Warriors are the 2017 P.E.I. School Athletic Association Intermediate AA Soccer League champions.
The Warriors received goals from three different players en route to a 3-0 victory over the Birchwood Cobras at Eric Johnston Field on Thursday afternoon.
Carley MacKinnon scored in the first half to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at the break. Jaden Grant and Emma MacIntyre added second-half insurance markers, and Emma Stevenson registered the clean sheet.
The Stonepark Tigers scored a single goal in each half in a 2-0 win over the Queen Charlotte Coyotes in the boys’ goldmedal match, also played at Eric Johnston Field. Matthew McCabe and Patrick Muise provided Stonepark’s offence while Nolan Berry earned the shutout.
Third-place games
In the bronze-medal games, the M.E. Callaghan boys outlasted Hernewood 4-3 at the Summerside Intermediate School pitch, and Stonepark edged Summerside Intermediate School 1-0 in girls’ play at Eric Johnston Field. Chandler DesRoche (2), Aiden Gaudet and Ty Gallant scored for M.E. Callaghan, which overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Noah Cormier, Josh Clements and Joey Gallant countered for Hernewood.
Winning keeper was Edmond Perry.
Ella David’s first-half goal stood up as the winner for Stonepark against Summerside Intermediate.
Jaelyn Power earned the shutout.
