East Wiltshire girls claim intermedia­te AA championsh­ip

The East Wiltshire Warriors are the 2017 P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n Intermedia­te AA Soccer League champions.

The Warriors received goals from three different players en route to a 3-0 victory over the Birchwood Cobras at Eric Johnston Field on Thursday afternoon.

Carley MacKinnon scored in the first half to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at the break. Jaden Grant and Emma MacIntyre added second-half insurance markers, and Emma Stevenson registered the clean sheet.

The Stonepark Tigers scored a single goal in each half in a 2-0 win over the Queen Charlotte Coyotes in the boys’ goldmedal match, also played at Eric Johnston Field. Matthew McCabe and Patrick Muise provided Stonepark’s offence while Nolan Berry earned the shutout.

Third-place games

In the bronze-medal games, the M.E. Callaghan boys outlasted Hernewood 4-3 at the Summerside Intermedia­te School pitch, and Stonepark edged Summerside Intermedia­te School 1-0 in girls’ play at Eric Johnston Field. Chandler DesRoche (2), Aiden Gaudet and Ty Gallant scored for M.E. Callaghan, which overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Noah Cormier, Josh Clements and Joey Gallant countered for Hernewood.

Winning keeper was Edmond Perry.

Ella David’s first-half goal stood up as the winner for Stonepark against Summerside Intermedia­te.

Jaelyn Power earned the shutout.
