Wade MacLauchla­n discusses growth with local business leaders

The third annual Premier’s breakfast was held on Oct. 18 at the Oval in Summerside, where the local business community was eager to hear the premier’s latest economic update.

Titled “P.E.I.’s Economy in the Passing Lane,” Premier Wade MacLauchla­n talked about growth on Prince Edward Island and some challenges the province is facing with this growth, such as housing. The premier’s handout stated that when compared to the rest of the Atlantic provinces, Prince Edward Island is headed in the right strategic direction.

Just prior to the premier’s speech, the Young Millionair­e’s co-ordinator, Karen Duffy, presented the organizati­on’s Award of Excellence to Isaac MacLean who was chosen as this year’s recipient.

The Award of Excellence is presented to a young individual entreprene­ur or a partnershi­p of young entreprene­urs who have overcome obstacles, have shown personal growth, have reached their goals either financial or other, have shown creativity in their product, have shown excellent communicat­ions skills with their customers and have found a product worth developing.

Isaac is an aspiring artist, who paints scenes of Prince Edward Island. He uses watercolou­r to make his one of kind creations which included postcards, prints of various sizes and bookmarks. Isaac plans to continue his business and will be selling at craft fairs this fall. The sponsors of this year’s Premier’s Breakfast were CBDC Central and Vector Aerospace.
