Upgraded school
First section of school’s renovations complete
The new Minister of Education Jordan Brown got to tour the completed section of Three Oaks High School, which is undergoing a major renovation.
The multi-million-dollar renovations to Three Oaks Senior High (TOSH) school have lightened up Sarah-Jane Dixon’s life.
The Grade 12 English and history teacher is one of the first educators to move into her newly renovated classroom at TOSH.
“We used to have one window per classroom and now classrooms have at least two, so the kids are more alert, awake, and alive,” said Dixon.
“Rather than dark, closedin hallways, we have windows with benches and breakout rooms where students can do project work that helps them gain 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.”
The initial work of the $22.6-million TOSH renovation began in March at the MacEwen Road end of the school. Work on that portion was completed this month.
To date 24,000 square feet has been successfully renovated out of the 160,000-square-foot project.
“This is the largest, most complex school construction project ever undertaken in our province,” said Infrastructure Minister Paula Biggar.
“We are pleased to see it moving forward with minimal disruption to teaching and learning.” Remaining work will include renovation of the final 18 classrooms, cafeteria, science labs, gym spaces, and administrative areas.
