Time for annual Halloween Fun Run in Kensington
The 10th annual Halloween Hustle Fun Run and Walk are set for Saturday, Oct. 28. The five-kilometre run and two-kilometre walk will be held on the Confederation Trail in Kensington area.
For 10 years, members of the Island Girls running group, led by co-founders Ronda Bellefontaine and Lynne Anne Hogan, have been organizing the run as a way to encourage Islanders to get active while celebrating the Halloween spirit and fundraise for projects.
The runners have raised close to $10,000 for groups and initiatives such as Camp Triumph, the IWK Foundation, the purchase of snowshoes that can be signed out through the Fitplex, and more.
“For our 10th anniversary, we wanted to go back to the reason we started this event and that was to encourage people to get active. So this year 100 per cent of the funds raised will be donated to support the creation of a one-time health and wellness scholarship for a Kensington Intermediate High School graduate. The more participants, the higher the value of the scholarship,” says Hogan.
Registration takes place by the train station (by the gazebo) in Kensington from 9 to 9:45 a.m. with the run/walk starting at 10 a.m.
Registration is $10 each ($2 for participants 12 years old and younger). Door prizes and post race anniversary treats will be handed out following the event.
As usual, the highlight of the event will be the prize for best costume.
