Pappy Go Go proves invincible

The son of Tad The Stud records win No. 13 in as many starts

It is official - Pappy Go Go has survived the entire Maritime stakes season without a single defeat, wrapping up his stakes run Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park during the Island Breeder’s Championsh­ip program.

Marc Campbell trains and drives the son of Tad The Stud for Grayland Farm of Pugwash, N.S., as he recorded win No. 13 of the season in as many starts in the Jack Annear Memorial Island Breeder’s three-year-old trot final for a $7,500 purse.

The mile time was 1:59.1 for the undefeated trotter, who becomes the first Maritime Bred to go unbeaten all season since Malabrigo accomplish­ed the feat in 2012.

Corey MacPherson came to play on the championsh­ip card, winning five races including two Island Breeder’s finals. JJ Powerball scored a huge upset at 39-1 odds in the $11,000 Doug Hill Memorial Island Breeder’s final for two-year-old pacing colts as the MacPherson driven pacer snapped Maritime champion Half Cut’s win streak at four and denied him the Atlantic Triple Crown in his division. JJ Powerball delivered the 1:57.1 mile for trainer Austin Sorrie, in the first major stakes victory of his young training career, along with owners Walter Simmons of Summerside and Tammy Collings of Hazel Brook. Tobinator and MacPherson teamed up to win the $11,000 Dr. Blair Kelly Memorial Island Breeder’s final for three-yearold pacing colts in a 1:56.2 score for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Billy Hicken of Vernon Bridge. MacPherson’s other three wins on the 14-dash card came with Jetta Flys in 1:57.4 for trainer Stephen Quinn, Cowboys Dont Cry in 1:56.2 for Kevin MacLean and with the Hicken trained Adkins Hanover in a 1:55.4 victory in the $2,400 preferred pace. Campbell had two winners on the card as he also won the $11,000 Norah Longworth Memorial Island Breeder’s final for three-year-old pacing fillies and secure her place as a Atlantic Triple Crown winner in her division, a title denied to her last year with a fourth place finish in this stake in 2016. The 1:56.4 winner is owned by Darryl MacLean of Winsloe, Katelyn Smallwood of Stratford, Cory Carver of Montague and Nova Scotia owner Tanya Tremblett of Sydney Mines.

Silverhill Misty scored a mild upset in the $11,000 Wallace Wood Memorial Island Breeder’s final for two-year-old pacing fillies as trainer Jason Hughes was in the bike for a 1:58.1 victory at 5-1 odds. The daughter of Proven Lover is owned by Kurt Hughes of Stratford. Win de mere dont u worry put the finishing touches on the Atlantic Triple Crown for twoyear-old trotters as he won the $7,500 Shelley Gass Memorial Island Breeder’s final as the post time favorite in 2:01.1. Gilles Barrieau was in the bike for trainer Terry Gallant, who co-owns the son of Armbro Barrister with Eric Johnston of Summerside.

The $2,250 Open Mares Pace was part of driving double by reinsman Kenny Arsenault, who engineered a 1:56.2 victory aboard Its all about he bass for trainer Jeff Holmes of Orwell. For more informatio­n including race replays go to www.Redshores.ca.
