Weekly Prince District RCMP report

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Nov. 13 and 19, 2017: TRAVELLERS REST – On Nov. 13 at about 11 a. m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a syringe in the street in a Travellers Rest neighbourh­ood. It was found by a someone who was out for a walk. Police attended, retrieved the needle and made arrangemen­ts for the needle to be discarded.

Diesel stolen

On Nov. 13 at about 3 p. m., there was a report of a theft of approximat­ely 200- litres of diesel from a vehicle in Rose Valley. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Damage complaint

On Nov. 14 at about 9: 30 p. m., a complaint of damage to property to a home located in Kildare Capes was received. Patrols were made in the area following the report.

Gas cans stolen

A complaint of theft of several gas cans from a storage shed in Knutsford was received. The theft is believed to have happened sometime between the hours of 5 p. m. on Nov. 13 and 7 a. m. on Nov. 14. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Assault complaint in Tyne Valley

On Nov. 15, at about 10 a. m., East Prince RCMP responded to a location in Tyne Valley to investigat­e a complaint of assault. Upon patrol, one 13- year- old male was arrested and charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, for assault, uttering threats, and mischief.

Accidental collision

On Nov. 15 at about 12 p. m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint of a minor hit and run traffic collision that took place on Main Street in Alberton. Police attended the scene, and through investigat­ion, determined the collision was accidental.

Roadside checks in West Prince

On Nov. 15 at about 10: 30 a. m., members of the West Prince RCMP Detachment conducted a roadside checkpoint on Main Street in Alberton. More than 75 vehicles were checked to detect impaired drivers and to check for violations under the provincial Highway Traffic Act. One written warning was issued as a result. A similar stop was also carried out on the Barclay Road in O’Leary this past week, resulting with two charges issued under the Highway Traffic Act, and one written warning.

Assault falsely reported

On Nov. 16 at about 12 a. m., a 911 call received a report that an assault had taken place at a residence in Alberton. Police immediatel­y patrolled to the location and through investigat­ion it was determined no assault had taken place. All involved parties were asked to leave the residence.

Canada Post mailbox trashed

On Nov. 17 at about 9: 30 p. m., East Prince RCMP received informatio­n that a Canada Post mailbox had been overturned on Route 107 in Wilmot Valley. Callers had witnessed that occupants of a white vehicle were responsibl­e. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Car stolen from Mount Pleasant

On Nov. 18 at about 12: 30 p. m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a theft of a Pontiac Grand Prix from a residence in Mount Pleasant. The vehicle is believed to have been stolen sometime through the prior night. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Man charged after found sitting behind wheel in running car

On Nov. 18 at about 7 p. m., West Prince RCMP located a 48- year- old man sitting in his running vehicle in a parking lot in Knutsford. The male had a smell of alcohol on his breath. The male blew over the legal limit and was given a 90day suspension. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Driver charged

On Nov. 18 at about 11: 30 p. m., a traffic stop was carried out in Mont Carmel for expired registrati­on of a vehicle. A roadside test was administer­ed and the 41- year- old male driver was issued a seven- day driving suspension, as well as a charge under the Highway Traffic Act for expired regis-

tration.

Suspicious activity in Freetown

On Nov. 19 at about 1 a. m., East Prince RCMP was called to investigat­e a complaint of suspicious activity in Freetown. The caller advised that unknown person( s) were witnessed shining bright lights into residents’ vehicles. Patrols of the area are continuing. Residents are reminded to not leave valuables in your vehicle and ensure your vehicles are locked while unattended.

Woman allegedly assaulted by ex

On Nov. 19 at approximat­ely 4 p. m., East Prince RCMP responded to a 911 call in Travellers Rest where the female caller reported being assaulted by her ex. A 29- yearold male was charged with assault Causing bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in court in mid- January. The accused is to have no contact with the victim.

Small fire in Albany

On Nov. 19 at about 7 p. m., East Prince RCMP responded to a vehicle on fire in Albany. A passerby stopped and provided water to extinguish the flames. Fire is not suspicious and there was minimal damage.

Man arrested for damaging property

On Nov. 19 at about 7: 30 p. m., West Prince RCMP members were called to a residence in Alberton to respond to a complaint of an intoxicate­d male who was damaging property. Members arrested the 32- year- old, and transporte­d him to the Prince County Jail. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Traffic complaints

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 10 traffic- related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoint­s and patrols throughout the coming weeks in various communitie­s across Prince District, targeting cellphone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
